Sunday Worship and Village Visit

It is Tuesday afternoon. A hot and sunny day which is typical for this time of year here in Soroti. We are approaching dry season here and it usually is much warmer with no rain. Much warmer, as in over 100 degrees!

Sunday Morning we were planning to visit a new church in Soroti. We are attending many of the churches in our community before we call one our church home. Church started at 8am. We later learned this was the Ugandan start time. What it really means is everyone will be there and be ready to worship by 9am. We drove up to the mud and stick building and were warmly greeted by many. The praise and worship time was beautiful. The congregation sings with all their heart. A few testimonies were shared and then the pastor preached. His message was Spirit led. He shared from........
As soon as he finished the message, a few women in the congregation began looking upward. My children began inching closer to me while they also looked up at the ceiling made of sticks and a tarp. Slithering between the branches was a two foot bright green snake! A man quickly grabbed a stick and threw it down on the floor, which I wasn't quite sure was the most clever idea, as the snake landed by another mans feet..who stomped on it and the excitement was over.

When the service was finished, we were blessed to join Pastor Fred and his wife Ruth for lunch. They both have amazing testimonies. Ruth was an orphan and because of the hardship she endured, her heart is burdened for the children of Uganda who are orphan, HIV, and neglected. Her dream is to set up family homes where 10 children will have a mother and father who care for them. She currently makes jewelry, sells it, and uses the money to send 10 orphan children to school. She also has taken in one child. Our time with them was such a blessing!

I promised to send more info and pics from our trip to our watchman Urias' village. This trip also was an incredible blessing. As we drove up to the village, Urias' mother was jumping up and down in excitement that we were there! Urias was giddy as he introduced his family one by one. It is common in Uganda that family stay together in the same village. Urias' mother and father and children, along with thier wives and children all stay in this village. Urias shared the Proclaimer (audio bible) with his family. All generations sat and listened. Urias afterward asked the questions of How God spoke to them and how they can apply it to thier lives. It was beautiful. Urias' family are belivers, our brothers and sisters in Christ. However, not everyone in thier village is able to read or has a Bible. This is why the audio Bible is such an amazing tool in Discipleship. We LOVE hearing Urias in the evening while he is our watchman, listening to the Proclaimer. Here are some pictures of the Day. When we left, they presented us with a gift of a chicken, potatoes, and G-nuts (peanuts)!

Trayton and I with our friend Fiona from Amecet Orphanage. Fiona is a beautiful 11 year old girl who has HIV. Her ARV's were not working, so they needed to switch them. Our prayer is that God will restore this sweet one back to health again.

So grateful to know you and for your family's example of living a "radical" Christian life. I don't often comment, but please know that I follow your blog and pray for all that you are doing as a family.
