It is 11:30 pm in Ethiopia. This country is so beautiful, yet poverty is everywhere. I think I'm beginning to not be so overwhelmed by it. The family we are staying with and the Bethany staff has done an amazing job helping us experience as much of "real" Ethiopia as we can handle. Bethany staff took us to the Epiphany ceremony today. This is the Ethiopian Orthodox church celebration of the baptism of Jesus. There were hundreds of thousands of people. It was quite a site to see. I suppose we were quite a site to see as well. Kidist is officially a Fisher. She is so excited that she moves at a tiring (for us) speed. She grabs sunglasses, digs in a purse looking for gum, picks up a camera and starts taking pictures, then she makes a dash for the outside or wants to play hide and seek and then digs in my back pack then gives us hugs and laughs, hopefully you get the idea. Kidist is a treasure. I asked Birtikan (guest house lady owner and an angel herself) if many kids that she sees are like Kidist. She smiled and her eyes kind of gleamed, she paused and said Kidist is unique...and I like her VERY much. God has been so good to us here. It was Michelle's birthday today and the kids got an email thru with a picture of them holding happy birthday sign. Yes, it gave us a lot of tears, but it was so nice. Please continue to pray for us and and all the orphans (there are so many here) in the world. Cast all your cares on Him and He will sustain you. Good night.
Chris

Michelle,
Happy Birthday! What a present that you have been given! Enjoy Kidest as well as the gift that God gave you. I was thinking that He gave us a "gift" that we don't deserve- to be born in America- rich- by all of the world's standards- with loving families and friends. It is a wonderful thing that you are doing. Our hope and prayers are with you. Take Care of your wife and daughter- Chris.
I'm kind of goose-bumpy right now after reading that! Happy happy birthday Michelle!! We are looking forward to meeting Kidest very soon and "liking her very much" too!!!! MUCH LOVE!!!!
PS: after hearing about her energy, I'm wondering if you're going to want to consider PreK instead of preschool...:)
Hello Chris, Michelle, and Kidest,

Happy Birthday, Michelle. You won't ever forget this one :)! Keep those blog posts comin'! Our thoughts and prayers are with you all there (and a special prayer going up to ask God to give you enough energy to keep up with Kidest!)
I can speak from what I've seen... YES, they are all like that for a couple months after coming home! :) Lightning quick fingers and actions when there is something they want! She'll settle down with time. Gotta love our Ethiopian firecrackers!

Dear Chris and Michelle - Wow! Isn't it an amazing adventure?! Your new daughter sounds like pure joy and we are dying to see pictures of her! Please post them soon! :-) We appreciated so much your words of love and encouragement while we were in Russia, and we want you to know that we are lifting you before the Lord as well!! Try to take it all in, and remember the details because it will go by so fast.

Just know that the CU family is praying for you, especially the Golf Committee! Thanks so much for the updates; they are such an encouragement to us back in the states. God's grace, peace, strength, provision, and safety for you today!
So excited to hear about how things are going! We keep praying that your time and experiences there are blessed. Say "hi" to Birtikan and Nesibu from the Beld's!
