An acquaintance of ours was given around 10 more years to
live. Please join me in praying to our God (who can move mountains and perform
miracles even today) for healing. While it is hard to imagine the emotions she
is going through right now, I can say I have been blessed, challenged, and
encouraged by
her most current blog post. God used her time overseas to open
her eyes to something different. She was wrecked and because of it, has chosen
to purposely live each day serving others and giving of herself. She could have
made a list of all the things she wanted to do and experience. She realized
these things will pass with her, someday. Instead, she has made a commitment to
love like Jesus. To love those that Lord has placed around her and those who
are suffering in poverty on the other side of the globe.
She reminded me of the blessing it is to serve here in
Uganda. To love those He puts in my path and at my gate each day. To share the
fatherhood of Christ with the fatherless. To care for those in need. To love
and cherish each day with my family, even on the ‘bad homeschool days’. To be
thankful for each and every relationship and to value them above the ‘things’
of this world that will not last. To take time to sit and talk….even if there
are dirty dishes in the sink or a mile of clothes, hanging on the line, waiting
to be folded. True, lasting, Joy
awaits us when we make time for such things!
We are blessed in the relationships that are growing here in
Kaliro. We have spent a lot of time with the Afayo Team; sharing, laughing, and
getting to know each other better. We are thankful for each of them!
Many of you know we have been fostering a 15 year old boy
named Isaac. I have not written much on this blog about him in order to protect
him and his story. We will just say that it is a difficult one. Isaac lost both
of his parents when he was young. We have known him now for about one year.
Last night Isaac shared with us that he would like to be baptized!! We praise
God for this decision in his life!!! We have seen a transformation in his life
since arriving back from the States. Please continue praying that Isaac will
walk in the spirit and not in his own strength.
Christmas Morning we drove out to the village to attend the
Christmas Service in Naigobya. On the 30 minute drive out there, we saw women
preparing their chickens for a Christmas Feast, children walking to church in
their new clean set of Christmas clothes, other children fetching water in
yellow jerry cans or sweeping the compound clean, all in preparation for the
day. No twinkling lights, no fresh cut tree, no pretty wrapped gifts, no
stockings hanging. But Joy, pure Joy. Joy in the simplicity of gathering with
family and sharing a Christmas feast. Celebrating Christ in Christ.mas.
It has been a busy month since we arrived! We had only one
squatty that worked in the house…so needless to say, we have all mastered the
squatty now! It will come in handy next time we are in the village. Currently, the toilets are all in working order!! Chris is tackling our electricity issue today.
It appears we have an attic full of bare wires. Those of you who have any kind
of electrical knowledge know that isn’t exactly a good thing! The power has not been great here in Kaliro.
It shuts off almost every day.
